112 and 83 against New Zealand, Lord’s
When Strauss’ Evaluation introduction crops up in the commentary box, you can bet it is because of his innings dismissal that is second – operate out by out-going skipper Nasser Hussain – compared to his usual century in his first Test knock because of his nation. The newest kid on the block was all here to stay.
147 v 2005, South Africa, Johannesburg
New from past 1000 Test runs, Strauss’ third hundred of the series — and his fifth ton in his 11th Evaluation — came in the fourth game to put the platform for a memorable success, even if it did demand a Matthew Hoggard (7-61) masterclass to finish the job and earn a 2-1 lead.
Catching Adam Gilchrist, 2005, Trent Bridge
Following a slow start to the Ashes, Strauss stepped it up at the third Test at Old Trafford to score a precious 106 but his iconic moment of this series came in the first Test at Trent Bridge, where he flung himself to his left at slip and hung in the air for a lifetime to pluck a border provided by Adam Gilchrist off Andrew Flintoff.
129 v Australia, the Oval
Kevin Pietersen’s 158 took the headlines since the Ashes were obtained although it was Strauss that shored England up in the first innings — his stoic first-day century resisting Australia’s efforts to power out of those cubes in search of the victory they needed to square the collection.
177 v New Zealand, Napier, 2005
Strauss returned refreshed for the 2008 tour of New Zealand, after being chased for England’s 2007 tour of Sri Lanka; his career-best 177 in the next Test place him and cemented his place. His party on reaching three characters said it all…
100s in innings v India, Chennai
There was no altering Strauss in the side or the crease in India, since he became the 10th Englishman to make a hundred in each innings of the identical Evaluation (bad luck, Nasser), following up his first innings 123 with 108.
161 2009, v Australia, Lord’s
Things could only get better after England were bowled out by West Indies to 51 in Strauss’ first Test as permanent captain and they did, together with England regaining the Ashes beneath his leadership in 2009; his first-day 161 paved the way for England’s first Ashes win in the house of Cricket as 1934.
110 v 2010, Australia, Brisbane
Records continued to collapse beneath Strauss’ captaincy by beating Australia on their own turf for the first time since 28, because England ended 24 decades of annoyance. His first hundred in Australia — and 19th complete — aided to blunt Jonathan Trott, Alastair Cook and the Aussie attack also fulfilling their boots, to foil the hosts’ victory hopes.
England No 1 at the World
England was directed by strauss in fashion as India to high place in the Test rankings suffered a whitewash, his meticulous planning with Andy Flower’s culmination. His own successor-in-waiting rather overshadowed his Test 87 – Alastair Cook plundering 294.
141 v West Indies, Nottingham, 2012
Strauss’ summer in Test cricket yielded two hundreds in as many Tests against the West Indies, every paving the way for a seventh consecutive home victory. It was a bang which epitomised.
