Daahyeh sets Rockfel standard
Royal Ascot heroine Daahyeh bids to Subtract the winning Course in the Shadwell Rockfel Stakes at Newmarket on Friday.
After following up her Newmarket debut roger Varian’s filly looked every inch juvenile in the making.
She has had to contend with all the spot in her subsequent two starts, but has dropped little in chasing home Raffle Prize in the Duchess of Love and Cambridge Stakes less than a fortnight past.
Varian stated:”Daahyeh worked great from the Moyglare on her first try in seven furlongs when she had been coming back after a small break. I am very happy at how she has come out of this race and I am very much looking forward to conducting .
“It was a tight decision choosing between operating her here or in the Cheveley Park Stakes on Saturday.
“But the long-term plan could include taking her over to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf more than a longer excursion, so it seemed wise to stick at seven furlongs rather than yo-yoing back down into six.”
Daahyeh is one of three most Varian runners, together with the Bury Road-based trainer saddling the maiden Stylistique – Frankie Dettori’s mount – and Salisbury next Alash Orda.
“Alash Orda is a beautiful filly who is creating a huge jump in class, but she will be a great horse at the time,” the trainer added.
“Stylistique is getting better and better and even though she is still a maiden, ” I don’t feel that her present handicap mark of 98 flatters her or is any type of fluke.
“She won’t have to improve much to create the framework on Friday.”
Before this month richard Hannon’s Cloak made a big impression on her racecourse introduction at Ascot in July, but could only finish sixth when hot favorite for its May Hill at Doncaster.
Aidan O’Brien – that claimed this Group two prize for the third time with Just Wonderful 12 months ago – is based on Blissful, who has won her last two starts at Tipperary and Leopardstown.
Festival Day is a interesting contender for Mark Johnston, after bolting up in Chepstow, turning out just 10 days.
Charlie Johnston, assistant to his father, said:”It would not be anything we do throwing a horse in at the deep end so quickly – but that filly was showing enough early on to provide her several entries in this kind of level.
“She had been unfortunate to be beaten on her first run in Goodwood and that she put that experience to work with at Chepstow last week.
“Daahyeh sets a very good standard and will be a hard nut to crack. It is a bit of a fact-finding mission for us, but we hope she’ll be competitive.”
The other hopefuls are Under The Stars (James Tate), Hot Touch (Hugo Palmer) and Alabama Whitman (Richard Spencer).
