MMA ODDS AND ENDS FOR TUESDAY: DC VS. HENDO RUMORED FOR UFC 175

A matchup between two of the top-10 light heavyweights in the world is rumored to take place at UFC 175. According to a report from MMAFighting.com, Daniel Cormier is likely to face legend Dan Henderson at UFC 175 this July in Las Vegas. Formerly, Cormier had been connected to a fight against Rafael Feijao, but the UFC has reportedly thought twice about that matchup and will perform Cormier/Hendo instead. Even though the report was stated to be untrue by UFC president Dana White through Twitter, all of us understand that White likes to keep these types of items in house until they are 100 percent official, and undoubtedly as the old expression goes,”Where there’s smoke there is fire.” I really do think this matchup between Cormier and Henderson occurs because it’s the fight that makes most sense from the 205lb division at the moment. There are a lot of people out there talking about how awful Henderson appeared in the first two rounds of his struggle with Shogun Rua in UFC Fight Night 38 a few weeks past, and he certainly didn’t look as the Hendo of older for the first 10 minutes. But what people forget is that the struggle was scheduled for 25 minutes, and Henderson got the job done in the 16th minute of the struggle. So I feel like fans and press have been far overly critical of Henderson considering that, you know, he won the fight with Shogun. So far as Cormier goes, he’s been unbeaten in his mixed martial arts profession and basically untested for the most part as he’s been pretty much flawless in all his fights, including his three at the UFC against Roy Nelson, Frank Mir, and Pat Cummins. But I truly believe Henderson is a more dangerous fighter than all three of these guys, and this struggle between DC and Hendo isn’t a walk in the park for DC, despite what some people are saying. That being said, clearly Henderson would enter the fight Cormier has a large favorite, if it indeed goes down. My guess is that DC opens roughly -400 for the fight, one which is likely to serve as the co-main occasion of UFC 175 if that event happens. I think that’s a neutral place for DC, but I would not surprised at all when the gambling public bets him up to a crazy number, possibly. Hopefully we get confirmation of the bout soon, since I think Hendo is the ideal test for DC and if Cormier can complete him in remarkable fashion, he will have really earned his title shot against Jon Jones.
