Cristiano Ronaldo ’embarrased’ by rape allegations
Cristiano Ronaldo admits that he felt”ashamed” by allegations that he raped a woman in vegas.
The Portuguese was accused of attacking American Kathryn Mayorga at a hotel room in June, 2009 – a claim he refused.
The investigation was initially closed in 2009 but reopened in August last year, soon before Ms Mayorga filed a civil suit in September. She stated she had gained the courage.
Prosecutors announced in July that they wouldn’t be prosecuting the case because the allegations could not”be shown beyond a reasonable doubt”.
The case is still available against the footballer.
Ronaldo admits that the allegations have taken a toll on him.
“They play together with your own dignity,” Ronaldo told’Good Morning Britain’ in an interview with Piers Morgan which will air on Tuesday.
“It is hard. You have a girlfriend, you just have a household, you have kids. It is bad, when they play with your honesty, it is hard.
“I recall one day I had been at home in the living room with my buddy watching the tv to find that the information and they talk about’Cristiano Ronaldo that.’
“I listened to my kids coming down the stairs and that I changed the channel because I was embarrassed.
“I simply changed the channel for Cristiano Jr to not see that they speak bad about his father about a really poor case.”
Throughout the interview, Ronaldo became emotional when talking about his father away aged 52 in 2005 two decades after he first joined Manchester United from Sporting Lisbon.
Ronaldo broke down into tears by Morgan of his father clutching his son for TV before he expired, when exhibited footage.
“I never saw that video. Unbelievable,” Ronaldo said. “I believe the interview would be funny, but I did not expect to shout. However, I never saw those images. I really don’t know where you… I must have these pictures to show my loved ones.
“I really don’t understand my father 100 per cent. He was a drunk person. He and I never spoke . It was hard.
“To be the number one and he do not see , and he don’t see to receive awards, to see exactly what I became.”
